Jane Eyre by charlotte bronte
Jane Eyre was an orphan in the household of her Aunt Mrs. Reed and cousins at Gateshead. As she is subjected to cruel treatment at Gateshead, her Aunt eventually sends her to Lowood School where the cruel treatment continues. But at Lowood she finds Helen Burns who helps change her mind about wishing bad luck on her Aunt and cousins. She then is offered a job as a governess at Thornfield Hall, where she then falls in love with Mr. Rochester. She discovers an impediment when she and Rochester try to marry. She figures out he is still a married man. From here the story transforms from a story of revenge and romance to a story of Jane trying to find herself as a person. She becomes passionate to look for something bigger for her life, she wanted something more than what the Victorian society traditionally allowed. The book allows us to continue to want to flip the pages to figure out its secrets. Charlotte's enduring romantic novel continues to engage readers.
Wuthering Heights by emily Bronte
Wuthering Heights by Charlotte Bronte is a wild, passionate, and intense romantic novel. The theme of the novel is a Gothic Romance. The romance between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, who is her adopted brother, is very crazy and a bit confusing. They make their love more difficult than what it should be. Heathcliff gets bullied by Catherine's brother Hindley Earnshaw and leaves Wuthering Heights to only come back a few years later as a wealthy and charming man. He returns to get revenge, which is what the book is really based on; getting revenge. The book is one of my favorites.
Great expectations by Charles dickens
This is probably one of Dickens best novels ever. In Great expectations orphaned Pip is granted to be an apprentice to his brother in law Joe who works in the forge but he dreams of becoming a gentleman. While Pip was a little boy he was forced to lie and hide things from Joe and his sister in order to stay a live. His life was threatened by a convict who ends up helping Pip possess Great expectations. Through crime, guilt, revenge and reward the novel continues to make you want to flip the pages more and more.
Hamlet by shakespeare
Hamlet is a very interesting play where, Hamlet(the Prince of Denmark) tries to deal with his mother marrying his Uncle, Claudius(father's brother) one month after the death of his father King Hamlet. Claudius murdered King Hamlet, his own brother in order to take the thrown of Denmark and to marry his sister in law. Hamlet continues to figure out the remarkable tragedies that continue to deepen his depressing state. Hamlet begins to become torn between wanting revenge for his father and his sadness. Because of this, he then becomes mad and loses almost everything. The craziness and tragedies of the book make readers want to continue to read.
King Lear by Shakespeare
This is one of Shakespeare's finest tragedies. The aging King Lear decides to divide his kingdom between his three daughters. He asks each of his daughters how much they love him and why. The lying Goneril and Reagan get their rewards but when King Lear asks Cordelia, his youngest daughter that truly loves him, decides that she shouldn't have to prove her love to him. Because of that Cordelia is banished from the kingdom, her inheritance of the kingdom is taken away and she is no longer considered part of the family. The two older sisters Goneril and Reagan eventually show their true sides and mock Lear. They take back their promise to support their father. Through tragedy after tragedy the play makes you feel as if you are right in front of them watching the whole play.
Independent Reading Novel reviews
Scarlet letter by nathaniel hawthorne
The Scarlet Letter is set in the harsh puritan community. It is about an adulterous entanglement that eventually leads to the birth of a child. This reveals Nathaniel's concerns with the public and private lives. Publicly ashamed, Hester Prynne tries to use her inner strength to become the first true hero of American fiction. The book serves as a book for women trying to find themselves and to have more in life. Other than what the puritan society expects of women. The book is a real page turner if your into women rights.

a raisin in the sun by loarraine hansberry
Lorraine's award winning drama is about the hopes and dreams of a struggling, working class family that lives on the south side of Chicago. They are in the search to reach the "American Dream". Walter goes through a lot of obstacles in order to try to make his family to live in better circumstances. Mama is given a $10,000 insurance check and has to decide what to do with it. Walter really wants Mama to give him the money in order for him to start a new business. True family values are tested within the play. A Raisin in the Sun is one of the best dramas I have read.
The adventures of huckleberry Finn by mark twain
The novel is first intended as a simple story of a little boy's adventures in the Mississippi Valley. The book is a sequel to another novel called The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The novel grows and matures to a very complex plot. It was a good read but not at interesting as I thought it would be. I really prefer novel's by the Bronte sisters.
the great gatsby by f. scott fitzgerald
In the novel, Gatsby rises to glory but then eventually falls because of the lies he made up in order to achieve the "Amerian Dream". But it is also a love story between Gatsby and Daisy who is actually married. Daisy had previous relations with Gatsby before she was married and before he left for the war. Gatsby spends the rest of his life to try and impress Daisy. The active plot keeps readers intrigued.
